These are a few of the organizations in Fremont County that have applied for and been granted the 1/2 cent economic development sales tax grant,
which you have generously funded. There are many more organizations that have been funded by this grant.
In 2020, after much deliberation and hesitation by the Fremont County Commissioners, the Economic Development Tax was placed on the ballot. Although there were concerns about its potential impact, the Commissioners recognized the need for a dedicated funding source to support local businesses, ground transportation, and air services. Ultimately, it was up to the voters to decide whether this tax would provide the necessary resources for economic growth and development in Fremont County.
Economic Development shall be defined as any project that retains or increased employment, and/or results in a net gain of money into the community. Thirty (30%) of the net proceeds of the tax shall be used to support transportation infrastructure such as commercial air service and ground transportation: the remaining seventy percent (70%) will be allocated to the County and 6 Municipalities based on population to manage and invest in economic development projects of their choosing
The narrowly tax passed and in December of 2020 the County Commissioners and Mayors developed an MOU to further defined the distribution of the allocated amounts. The airport would get 20%; WRTA would get 10%; the remaining 70% would be distributed based on population of the designated areas.
In August 2024, the Fremont County Association of Governments (FCAG) recently amended the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the ½-Cent Economic Development Tax. These were made without the consent of the Fremont County Commissioners or the Town of Dubois .

At Citizens of Affirming Sensible Taxes (CAST), our mission is to advocate for fair and transparent taxation policies that prioritize the public good. We believe that public funds should be allocated to clearly defined community projects that benefit all citizens, rather than being used to support private interests. As a united community, we aim to educate, engage, and empower citizens to make informed decisions, ensuring that every tax dollar serves a meaningful and beneficial purpose. Together, we are committed to fostering responsible governance and advocating for the cessation of the current 1/2 cent sales tax until it is restructured to better serve our community.
